Test Manager user guide
Testing Process Governance provides a set of governance and compliance features which support customers who require a governance layer over their testing process. Testing objects which have Testing Process Governance enabled must be reviewed and signed off by an approver assigned to those objects.
Testing Process Governance - workflow
Testing Process Governance aims at providing a mechanism which ensures quality by transitioning test objects through review stages.
- In Work: Objects which are in this state can be changed and are not subject to review yet.
- In Review: After work has been finished, objects can be transitioned into this state manually, indicating that the review process might start. Objects in this state are locked. Approvers can comment, sign, or reject these objects.
- Signed: After all approvers sign an object, it transitions automatically into this state. Objects remain locked unless signatures are revoked.
Testing Process Governance - terminology
Approver
Approvers are users assigned to a governed object for approval and sign off. Approvers do not require special permissions to sign a record. However, only users who hold the Test Process Governance role or the Test Process Governance permission can assign approvers to governed testing objects.
Approvers can be added to an object either by direct assignment or by group assignment. For the latter case, any member of the assigned group can sign the record.
Signatory Record
A signatory record is a signature which is required for a governed object. Any assignment of a user or a group represents a signatory record.
Governance (process) – Governed (attribute)
Governance is a toggle on test cases. Governed testing objects go through the following states (or approval statuses): In Work – In Review – Signed.
Approval state
An approval state indicates the status of an object in the approval process: In Work – In Review – Signed.
- In Work: the object is still worked on and not ready for review.
- In Review: the object can be reviewed or the review is in progress. While in review, the object is locked.
- Signed: the object was signed off by all approvers. If the object is not signed by all the assigned users (approvers), then the object is still shown with the In Review status.
Testing Process Governance - permission
The Test Process Governance permission is assigned by default to the Project Owner role, the Test Manager Administrator role, and the Test Governance Administrator role. The Test Process Governance permission is a task-level permission.
Testing Process Governance - notifications
When the state of a governed object changes from In work to In review, all the assigned approvers receive an in-app notification and an email with a deep link they can access. If a user is part of a group, and both the user and the group are added as approvers, only one review notification will be sent to that user.
- In-app governance notification: Expand the Notifications panel and select the link to go the object you need to review.
- Email governance notification: Open your email notification, consult the details of the governed object, and select Click to review.
