Importing and exporting taxonomies

Import and export the taxonomy of an Extract node in UiPath Maestro™ Flow to share, back up, or reuse taxonomy configurations across nodes and environments.

These features help maintain consistent document structures and save time when setting up new nodes.

Exporting a taxonomy

To export a taxonomy, proceed as follows:

  1. Hover over the Flow Extract node, and select Open full view, which opens the Definition tab.

  2. In the Taxonomy section, select Import/Export.

  3. Select Export taxonomy.

Result: A .json file with the current taxonomy structure is downloaded.

Importing a taxonomy

The import includes fields, field groups, and field types, along with their instructions.

You can also import a taxonomy that you exported from an IXP Unstructured and complex documents project. For details, refer to Exporting a taxonomy in the IXP user guide.

To import a taxonomy, proceed as follows:

  1. Hover over the Flow Extract node, and select Open full view, which opens the Definition tab.

  2. In the Taxonomy section, select Import/Export.

  3. Select Import taxonomy. The Import taxonomy from a file window opens.

  4. Upload a taxonomy file in .json format.

  5. Use the toggle on the Overwrite existing field types, fields and field groups with identical names option to choose how the import handles items that already exist:

    • Enabled - Existing items are replaced by the imported ones.
    • Disabled - Existing items are ignored.
    Note:

If you enable the overwrite option, the system does not overwrite fields and field types that have different underlying data types. Instead, it duplicates them.

  6. Select Import.
