Moving from the Preview installer to the GA installer
Compare the Preview and GA installers for Delegate, identify which one you have, and move to the GA installer.
- Preview installer — the separate, standalone installer that distributed the early-access release of Delegate, from early 2026 until Delegate reached General Availability (GA) on September 22, 2026.
- GA installer — the platform installer that distributes the production release, described in Install and update.
Preview access had two parts: Delegate came from the Preview installer, and UiPath enabled your organization for Preview separately. If that describes your organization, on Windows or macOS, move to the GA installer.
How Preview access worked, and why it is changing
During Preview, UiPath enabled Delegate for your organization directly. No user licenses were involved, so anyone in the organization could use Delegate, and consumption came from a separate Preview pool that UiPath managed on your behalf.
That arrangement was built for early access, not for running Delegate day to day. It sits outside the standard licensing and usage model, so every change has to go through UiPath rather than through your own administrators.
The GA installer puts Delegate on the standard model: each user holds a license, and consumption is drawn from and managed in your organization.
| Area | Preview installer | GA installer |
|---|---|---|
| User license | Not required; UiPath enabled access at the organization level, so any member could use Delegate | Required for each user before installing — see Install and update |
| Consumption pool | A separate Preview consumption pool | A monthly allowance included with each user license, plus an organization pool for top-ups |
| Adding allowance | Cannot be topped up from your organization; additional allowance is requested through UiPath | Topped up directly by your organization administrators |
| Usage visibility | Not visible to anyone, including your administrators | Visible in your organization |
Moving to the GA installer also moves you onto the licensing model described in Usage pool consumption for Autopilot, Delegate, and Cartographer.
Migration timeline
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| October 2026 | UiPath may contact your organization about migrating. Migration steps and timeline are available on this page. |
| October–November 2026 | UiPath starts moving organizations to the GA licensing model. The Preview installer still works, but each user needs a license. |
| December 2026 | Support for the Preview installer ends. |
Move to the GA installer before December 2026 to stay supported.
Checking which installer you have
The installed version number tells you which installer Delegate came from. To find it:
- Go to Settings > General.
- Scroll down to About.
- Check the Version value.
Read the leading segment of the version string, before the first hyphen. That segment identifies the installer, and the numbers after it are component versions.
Preview installer
Preview installer versions start with v1.6 or v1.7, with no build suffix after them.
GA installer
GA installer versions start with v26.
Moving to the GA installer
Moving to the GA installer is a reinstall. Not everything transfers automatically, so check what carries over before you start.
- Uninstall the Preview installer version of Delegate.
- Install Delegate through the GA installer for your OS — refer to Installing Delegate on Windows or Installing Delegate on macOS.
Your chats and settings carry over selectively:
- Chats — remote chats carry over; local chats don't, since each installer stores them under a different path.
- Settings — only what's synced to the cloud carries over: model and effort choices, execution mode, custom profiles, favorite skills and routines, tool permissions, custom instructions, and follow-ups. Everything stored only in the local
settings_v2.jsonis lost: theme, colors, fonts, language, keyboard shortcuts, sounds, zoom, screen-context and PiP preferences, default apps and browser profiles, pinned chats, plugins, local MCP servers, the local-vs-remote chat storage choice, and first-run flags.
Because first-run flags are lost, you'll see the onboarding flow again after transitioning.
Migrating your data manually
If you want to keep everything instead of relying on the selective carryover above, migrate your data manually. Uninstalling Delegate leaves your Delegate data on disk.
Windows
- Uninstall UiPath Delegate.
- If the folder
%APPDATA%\UiPath Assistantexists, rename it toUiPath Assistant.bak, or delete it if you don't want a backup. - Copy the entire contents (all files and folders) of
%APPDATA%\UiPath\Delegateinto a new folder%APPDATA%\UiPath Assistant. Copy instead of move, since the app still uses parts of the original folder. - Install Delegate through the GA installer — refer to Installing Delegate on Windows.
- Start UiPath Delegate.
macOS

~/Library/Application Support/UiPath Assistantexists, rename it toUiPath Assistant.bak, or delete it if you don't want a backup. - Copy the entire contents (all files and folders) of

- Start UiPath Delegate.
